Said Benrahma’s dream move to the Premier League could be off, as reports suggest the Brentford man failed his medical earlier today.

Benrahma, who got 17 goals and nine assists for the Bees last season, looked all but set to a move to West Ham, to further his career, with highly credible transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano giving it his blessing.

However, after apparently failing his medical, the £30 million deal could be off and with his future up in the air, we looked back on how the Bees’ fans player of the year got himself to where he is today.

Starting off his career in France, Benrahma made his first team debut for nice under former Leicester City and Southampton manager Claude Puel, but struggled to find any real form, playing a lot of his football for the second team.

Injuries and managerial changes didn’t help the Algerian, who spent time on loan at Ligue 1 club Angers and Ligue 2 clubs Gazelec Ajaccio and Chateaurox.

Then Brentford came in with an offer, reportedly worth in the region of £2.1 million in the 2018-19 summer transfer window.

During his debut campaign in England, Benrahma managed to get 10 goals and 15 assists, a goal involvement every 98.08 minutes, with the pick of the bunch coming in a 5-1 home win against Hull City, scoring three times and getting an assist.

Meanwhile on the international stage, Benrahma received a call up from Algeria in 2015, where he made his debut coming off the bench in a 1-0 victory over Senegal. His impressive form in the 2018-19 season saw him earn a call up into Algeria’s African Cup of Nations squad, but had to pull out through injury, which they would ultimately go on to win.

Off the back of an impressive debut season, Benrahma looked to build upon the foundations he had set himself and by getting 17 goals and nine assists, it certainly suggests he did just that.

Highlights from Benrahma’s time at Brentford so far

Playing a lot of his football of the left flank, Benrahma had the most passes into the final third across who whole of the Championship, 746 in total.

One of the most influential players in the EFL last season, Benrahma helped get his side within touching distance of the Premier league, but lost in the play-off final to Scott Parker’s Fulham.

With many fans in the Championship arguing that he deserved Championship Player of the Year, the Algerian was pipped to it by fellow team mate Ollie Watkins, who’s now leading the line for Aston Villa.

With his future unknown, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been reluctant to use their star player, only appearing twice in the league, in a 1-1 draw to Millwall and a 4-2 loss against Preston North End, where he came off the bench both times.

Benrahma will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his teammate, making the move to the Premier League in a different claret and blue.
